Strong digital infra for PH startup firms pushed

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 29) — The Marcos administration is urged to beef up the country’s digital infrastructure to make local startup companies one of the forces driving economic growth.

Angkas, a technology startup in the motorcycle taxi market, made this call as a Filipino representative to the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit held from Nov. 14 to 17 in San Francisco, California.

While President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. highlighted the need to tap digital tools to improve the country’s education and finance sectors, Angkas chief executive officer George Royeca said other industries, such as transportation, can also benefit from the shift.“The integration of robust digital infrastructure is crucial not only for education and financial transactions but also for fostering a more efficient and productive society,” he said in a statement.Royeca said the Philippines’ participation in APEC opened opportunities for startups to collaborate with international companies. The Department of Trade and Industry hopes to expand the country’s startup ecosystem to $10 billion by the end of Marcos’ term.
