Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 19) — Thanks to a clutch three-pointer by Matthew Montebon in the final seconds of the game, the Adamson University Soaring Falcons escaped with a narrow victory over the University of the East Red Warriors, 63-61, in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament on Sunday.
The Falcons’ win forces a matchup versus defending champions Ateneo de Manila University for fourth seed in the Final Four stage of the tournament.
Adamson currently holds a record of seven wins and seven losses this season, tied with Ateneo.
Ced Manzano and clutch shooter Montebon led the Falcons with 16 points apiece.
Manzano posted 10 rebounds and two assists. Montebon made seven rebounds and two assists.
Vince Magbuhos also stood out with 10 points, eight rebounds, and one assist.
Meanwhile, the UE Red Warriors end their UAAP Season 86 run with four wins and 10 losses, finishing in sixth place, above Far Eastern University and the University of Santo Tomas, respectively.
The Red Warriors had an impressive offense in their final UAAP outing this season, but Montebon’s game-winning three shut down their chance of ending their campaign on a winning note.
Rey Remogat scored an impressive double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists, falling just one assist short of a triple double.
Senegalese transferee Precious Momowei also made a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and one assist.
Jack Cruz-Dumont added 13 markers and four rebounds to the Red Warriors’ effort.
