Suspect admits affair with missing beauty queen – PNP

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 15) — One of the suspects in the disappearance of beauty queen Catherine Camilon admitted having an affair with her, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.

The PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said Major Allan de Castro of PNP Calabarzon revealed to authorities that he is in a relationship with Camilon despite being a married man.

“He admitted na mayroon silang relasyon with Ms. Camilon. But doon sa involvement niya ay he invoked his right to remain silent,” PNP-CIDG chief Major General Romeo Caramat told CNN Philippines.

“We respected ‘yung karapatan niya na manahimik dahil sabi nga niya, nakasampa na ‘yung kaso laban sa kanya at sasagutin na lang niya in the proper forum,” he added.

De Castro and three other suspects—two of them are unidentified—are facing kidnapping and illegal detention charges.

The PNP-CIDG said De Castro met with PNP chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. on Wednesday to apologize for dragging the PNP’s name.

“Sabi lang po ng ating chief PNP, since nasangkot ka sa ganitong problema, personal na problema, ‘you have to face the consequences or you have to face the court to prove your innocence,’” Caramat said.

Meanwhile, the forensics team of the Batangas CIDG collected samples from the parents and sister of Camilon on Tuesday afternoon. The samples will be subject to DNA comparison to know if the hair strands and blood samples from a recovered Honda CRV match Camilon’s.

Camilon has been reported missing since Oct. 12.

She was last contacted by her mother on the same night, saying she was at a gasoline station in Bauan town.
