Tony Bishop is Ginebra Commisioners’ Cup import after Brownlee doping scandal

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) – American-Panamanian Tony Bishop will serve as Barangay Ginebra’s import player for the PBA Commissioners’ Cup, the team’s head coach Tim Cone revealed to CNN Philippines’ Sports Desk on Friday.

The 6’7 power forward Bishop previously played as the Meralco Bolts’ import in the 2021 PBA Governor’s Cup.
The Commissioners’ Cup will begin on Nov. 5. Ginebra’s first match in the tournament will take place on Nov. 17 against Converge FiberXers
This is after Ginebra’s resident import and Gilas Pilipinas star Justin Brownlee failed a doping test shortly after the Philippine Men’s National Basketball Team won gold at the 19th Asian Games. Only he was flagged by the International Testing Agency, meaning the country won’t be stripped of its historic victory.

He tested positive for Carboxy-THC, a substance linked to marijuana use. Philippine Olympic Committee chief Bambol Tolentino said that this may be linked to the medicine the Gilas star uses to treat his ankle injury.
The POC opted not to open Brownlee’s second sample for analysis by the International Testing Agency. It has yet to release its final decision on the matter.
