
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 26) — Filipino jiu-jitsu fighter Kaila Napolis on Thursday won the country’s first gold medal in the World Combat Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Napolis defeated France’s Annael Pannatier, 2-0, in the finals of the 52 kg ne-waza event.
The Filipino fighter was also unbeaten in the early stages of the tournament.
Napolis survived the quarterfinals after winning against Colombia’s Adriana Cruz, 6-0.
In the semifinals, she won by submission against Mongolia’s Mongoljin Ganbaatar.
Napolis bagged bronze medal in the recently concluded Asian Games in China.
In May, she won gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.
