
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 26) — Twenty thousand personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard will be on alert for the upcoming holidays, securing ports as crowds head to the provinces for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections as well as All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
Coast Guard spokesperson Armand Balilo on Thursday said 10,000 more personnel are on standby in case additional forces will be needed.
“Ang instruction po ni Admiral Gavan sa lahat ng personnel ng Philippine Coast Guard ay maging visible sa lahat ng mga pantalan at iyong mga security forces na itatalaga natin sa barangay election ay dapat in place na,” he said.
[Translation: Admiral Gavan’s instruction to all personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard is to be visible at all ports and those security forces that we will assign in the barangay election must be in place.]Balilo added they remain on alert with the number of passengers expected to increase.The PCG is advising travelers to follow all safety guidelines and other regulations during their trip to avoid any inconvenience.
