Commander of 2 Cavite cops arrested for robbery, extortion should be held accountable — senator

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 21) — The commander of the two Cavite policemen arrested for robbery and extortion should be held accountable for letting his personnel continue their illegal activities, a senator said Thursday.

Dapat mananagot kaagad ‘yung mga commander ng mga tao na ito,” Sen. Bato dela Rosa told CNN Philippines’ The Source.

Dela Rosa, former chief of the Philippine National Police, also said it will be important for the PNP to look into its recruitment process to ensure that only those willing to serve will be part of the police force.

Last Tuesday, two policemen from Bacoor, Cavite and a civilian were arrested in an entrapment operation. The officers were identified as Police Staff Master Sergeant Joselito Bugay and Police Staff Sergeant Dave Bautista.

The operation was conducted after the social media post of their alleged victims went viral. They said the suspects were extorting payments totaling ₱1.5 million per month from various transport groups.

The PNP said the suspects were collecting payments disguised as protection money from being caught for any traffic violation.
