Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 14) — The chief of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) defended the agency’s proposed ₱300-million confidential funds, saying this is necessary to fight scammers.
DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said “our hands are tied” if the agency fails to secure the needed budget to stomp out the operations of cyber criminals. He also described these syndicates as “very well funded, very well organized, and very highly technical. The official said scammers have deployed measures to avoid being detected and captured by authorities. And we need all the resources possible and all the tools possible in order to go after them. And many of these tools and many of these methodologies require confidential funds to do it,” he stressed. So, the confidential fund is essential in order to conduct intel and investigation in order to go after these criminals,” Uy said during a Palace briefing on Wednesday.
