Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 4) – The Philippines ranked first among Southeast Asian countries to have the most number of visitors to Japan in July, the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) said.
JNTO logged 51,700 travelers from the Philippines. This was followed by Thailand with 49,600 visitors and Vietnam with 44,800 tourists.
The number of visitors from the Philippines in July 2023 is 36.9% percent higher compared to the same month in 2019.
JNTO said the collected data came from the Japan Ministry of Justice.
Travelers entering Japan for transit purposes and international students are included in the data, JNTO said.
However, the report excluded people whose primary residence is in Japan and crew members of the transportation that arrived in Japan.
From January to July this year, at least 320,000 travelers from the Philippines visited Japan.
In May, Google reported that Japan was the most searched country while its capital, Tokyo, was the most searched travel destination of Filipinos.
