
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 27) — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has warned against eating shellfish from seven areas in Western Visayas after these tested positive for paralytic shellfish poison produced by some species of algae.
In an advisory issued over the weekend, the BFAR identified these areas as follows:
– Saplan Bay (Ivisan and Saplan in Capiz; Mambuquiao and Camanci, Batan in Aklan)
– coastal waters of Panay, Capiz
– coastal waters of President Roxas, Capiz
– coastal waters of Roxas City, Capiz
– coastal waters of Pilar, Capiz
– coastal waters of Gigantes Islands, Carles in Iloilo
– coastal waters of Altavas, Batan and New Washington in Batan Bay, Aklan
The seven additional locations are added to the three others that have been identified as having toxic red tide, namely Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, and Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur.
