Comelec: Residents in 10 barangays automatically transferred, COC filing for BSKE to be done in Taguig

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 22) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said residents in 10 barangays transferred from Makati City to Taguig City need not worry about their voting records as the agency is already working on their transfer.

“We are now directing the transfer of all voting registration record ng lahat ng botante ng 10 barangays ng dating Makati sa ngayon ay sa Taguig and there will be no more registration of voters. Transfer lang po ang gagawin natin,” Comelec Chairman George Garcia told CNN Philippines’ The Source.

Comelec recently released its guidelines for the administrative transfer of the 10 barangays affected by the territorial row between the two cities for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Garcia emphasized that affected residents will not have to process anything as their transfer is already automatic. He also reminded those who will be filing their certificates of candidacies for the upcoming village level polls that they have to do so at the Taguig Convention Center.

On the use of classrooms, which Makati City says it owns, the Comelec chairman said they already wrote to the Department of Education (DepEd) to ask for permission to use the facilities.

This is in line with the order issued by DepEd last week that says it assumes authority over the 14 schools located in the 10 barangays. This also meant that all activities to be conducted by the covered schools will need the approval of the department’s Office of the Secretary.
