Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 15) — A fire hit Colegio de Sta. Rita (CSR) in San Carlos City in Negros Occidental Monday night.
“Seeing this iconic building ablaze saddens me so much, just like all of us. It has long been the city’s mighty edifice for decades, that resembled as a great institution of quality Christian Education that shaped thousands of lives,” San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo said in a statement.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the Augustinian Recollect Student Crusaders – CSR Chapter said school officials have suspended classes for Tuesday.
\”[P]lease be patient until any further notice is released. In the meantime, we ask you to, at least, dedicate a portion of your time to send your prayers and support to the AR Sisters, faculty and staff, and to each and every one of us,\” the statement read.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the student council warned the public against the spread of “malicious posts” that has been circulating online.
The posts included a photo of a shadowy figure seen in the chapel’s window during the fire.
“It is the statue of St. Rita, which had been located inside the school’s chapel for many years already,” the student council clarified.
\”We urge you all to be wary of any misinformation and spread awareness. We do not want our school to be aligned with malice or superstition,\” it added.
