
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 15) — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday said its personnel in Hawaii are set to conduct a consular mission to get more information about Filipinos affected by the deadly wildfire in Maui that has so far killed 96 people.
“They are undertaking a consular mission to Wailuku which is a nearby town from where they will be able to get more information,” DFA Usec. Eduardo de Vega told CNN Philippines’ The Source.
The consular mission will be on Wednesday and Thursday, Philippine time.

De Vega said DFA has also authorized the provision of financial assistance to at least 50 Filipino teachers in Maui who were also affected by the fire. Filipino authorities are still locating them, he noted.
All in all, there are around 2,000 Filipino citizens in the affected areas, De Vega said.
