Cayetano lists steps PH could take after China’s firing of water cannon near Ayungin

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 7) — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who was foreign affairs secretary from 2017 to 2018, on Monday said there are several steps Manila can take following China’s latest aggression in Ayungin Shoal, including summoning the Chinese ambassador.

On Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the Chinese Coast Guard fired water cannon against the former’s vessels that were escorting indigenous boats chartered by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to deliver food and supplies to military troops stationed on BRP Sierra Madre.

Dangerous maneuvers by the Chinese also prevented the second boat from unloading supplies, the AFP said.
