Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 31) — The chief of the Philippine National Police said the 18 high-ranking officers who submitted courtesy resignations to the president as part of the agency’s “internal cleansing” are “deemed resigned,” but it is still unclear when the resignations would take effect.
On Monday, PGen Benjamin Acorda said some of these officials would still receive their benefits after the acceptance their resignations.
“May mga matatanggap, may mga hindi matatanggap na parte. ‘Di ko lang alam ‘yung specifics noon. But with regards to the orders issued, they are resigned,” he said.
[Translation: They will receive some parts, some parts they won’t. I’m not too sure on the specifics. But with regards to the orders issued, they are resigned.]
Acorda, however, did not give any details about the cases of the resigned officials, but added that he hopes the PNP would not be affected by the situation.
“On the part of the whole organization, ang hinihiling ko lang, let us continue to work. Sana hindi tayo maapektuhan dito sa outcome na ito. And what I wanted is that each and every personnel will continue to implement and do our law enforcement operations professionally, aggressively, and as I said, tayo lahat dito, we are part of it and it’s a call for cleansing of the organization,” he said.

As to the vacancies resulting from the resignations, Acorda said these would be filled up as soon as possible.
“Organization to, eh,” he said. “When somebody is being relieved or resigned or retires, meron namang papalit talaga.”
