Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 28) — The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Friday said it may again allow visits to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) by next week as the situation has improved in the maximum security compound.
\”Baka next week pwede na yung visit. Alam mo ayaw ko naman na yung privilege nila naku-curtail,\” said BuCor chief General Gregorio Catapang Jr. in a media briefing.
[Translation: We may allow visits by next week. To tell you, I don’t want to curtail their privilege.]
The bureau on Thursday lifted the red alert in the national penitentiary in Muntinlupa City. The alert was raised in the wake of separate commotions which left one inmate killed and several injured.
Catapang also bared a plan to decongest the NBP by moving to other jails over 4,000 inmates who have not been receiving visitors.
\”Mayroong 4,000 plus na hindi rin nadadalaw. Ito yung mga tao na balak namin, with the permission of our secretary, na ilipat na rin,\” the BuCor chief said.
[Translation: There are 4,000 plus who are not being visited. These are the people, with the permission of our secretary, we want to transfer to other jail facilities.]
\”Kasi marami tayong bakanteng kulungan sa Mindoro, Sablayan, Iwahig. Halos tapos na rin yung mga bagong prison cell o dormitory na pwede nang ilipat sila.\”
