Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 25) — The state weather bureau on Tuesday said rains brought by Super Typhoon Egay helped raise water levels in Angat and other dams.
\”Katamtaman po ‘yung mga pag-ulan within the watershed ng Angat Dam kaya patuloy po itong tumataas halos three days na po siyang tumataas,\” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) hydrologist Richard Orensain said.
[Translation: The rains within the Angat Dam watershed are moderate, so the water level continues to rise, it has been rising for almost three days now.]
As of Tuesday morning, Angat’s water level was recorded at 180.99 meters, or higher by 20 centimeters from the previous day.
PAGASA also recorded an increase in the water levels of Ipo, Ambuklao, Binga, and Pantabangan dams.
\”Ine-expect natin na patuloy habang nandyan si Egay ay madadagdagan pa rin itong mga tubig sa major dams natin. Beneficial po ang dinulot niyang ulan,\” PAGASA senior weather specialist Engr. Oskar Cruz said.
[Translation: We expect that as long as Egay is there, the water in our major dams will continue to increase. The rains it caused are beneficial.]
Water concessionaire Maynilad earlier warned their customers in parts of Metro Manila of indefinite water interruptions beginning the second week of July due to the low water level in Angat.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources previously said the government is considering diversifying sources of water to reduce dependence on the dam.

There were also plans to conduct cloud-seeding operations for Magat Dam and other dams in Bohol in preparation for the looming dry spell in the country.
