DFA: Initial probe shows no foul play in death of OFW in Hong Kong

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 18) — An initial investigation by Hong Kong authorities found no signs of foul play in the death of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose body was found floating near a pier on July 13, a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) official said on Tuesday.

\”For now, wala naman pong foul play, wala naman pong person of interest thus far,\” DFA Assistant Secretary Paul Cortes told a public briefing.

Cortes added that the Philippine government is still awaiting Hong Kong authorities’ official report on the cause of death.

The body of the OFW – identified in previous reports as a Filipino woman – was found near the Tsing Yi public pier early morning last Thursday, Cortes confirmed.

He said the OFW’s family requested for her name to be concealed from the public.

Cortes added that the remains will be repatriated after Hong Kong police release details on the cause of death hopefully \”in the next couple of weeks, or even earlier.\”

He said both the DFA and the Department of Migrant Workers are in touch with the OFW’s family regarding assistance that may be extended to them.
