
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 17) – Erik Matti’s “On the Job: The Missing 8” has won six awards, including Best Film, in the annual Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies held at The Manila Hotel on Sunday night.
The Philippines’ entry to the 95th Academy Awards also won Best Sound Design (Corinne de San Jose), Best Screenplay (Michiko Yamamoto), Best Supporting Movie Actress of the Year (Lotlot de Leon), Best Ensemble Acting, and Best Director (Erik Matti).

In his Instagram post, Matti expressed gratitude for his film’s latest recognition.
“Thank you so much PMPC for the recognition. How I wish I was there to witness all the awards you’ve given our film,” he said.

“To the cast and crew who worked so hard for this film, congratulations! Our film is still being recognized year in, year out,” he added.
The film is a sequel of On The Job (2013) which revolves around former inmates being hired as contract killers. The Missing 8 (2021), meanwhile, focuses on corruption and media censorship during former president Rodrigo Duterte’s regime.
It starred Joel Torre, John Arcilla, Piolo Pascual, Dennis Trillo, Gerald Anderson, Joey Marquez, and Christopher De Leon.
The film was also nominated in the Best TV movie and Mini-series category at the 50th International Emmy Awards.

One of the film’s protagonists, John Arcilla, won the Coppa Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice International Film Festival. He was also the first Southeast Asian artist to win Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival last year.
Black Rainbow (2021), Zig Dulay’s film about indigenous peoples’ education, was named as Best Short Film and Best Short Film Director of the Year in the PMPC ceremony.
The film won Best Short Film and Best Screenplay in the 2022 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
“Para ito kina Itan at Haya, at sa lahat ng taong patuloy na lumalaban para sa kanilang mga pangarap,” Dulay said in a post.
