Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 27) — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday denied reports of a revamp in the Philippine National Police (PNP), saying the supposed reassignments are “just recommendations.”
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos cited the National Police Commission’s (NAPOLCOM) Memorandum Circular No. 2019-001 which provides: “The assignment/designation of the [concerned positions] shall be submitted to the commission for confirmation prior to the submission of the same to the president for approval.”
\”Linawin lang natin na may prosesong kailangang sundin. Ang listahan ng mga napiling opisyal ay isusumite sa NAPOLCOM para sa kumpirmasyon,\” Abalos said in a statement.
[Translation: To be clear, there’s a process that needs to be followed. The list of the appointed officials will be submitted to NAPOLCOM for confirmation.]
\”Kung makumpirma ng NAPOLCOM, mapupunta yung listahan sa pangulo para sa kanyang pag-apruba,\” he added.
[Translation: If NAPOLCOM confirms the list, it will then be forwarded to the president for his approval.]
Media outlets, including the state-run Philippine News Agency, earlier reported that PNP Directorate for Intelligence chief Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. was named as the new acting regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office.
Meanwhile, other senior police officers were also reportedly reshuffled to lead the Directorate for Intelligence, Directorate for Police Community Relations, Directorate for Logistics, Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development, Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, PNP Academy, and the Highway Patrol Group.
