Rains to prevail in Quezon; downpour expected in NCR

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 26) — Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Quezon province over the next 12 hours while Metro Manila will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, state meteorologists said on Monday afternoon.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) also said moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds were being felt in Cabangan and San Felipe, Zambales and San Pedro, Biñan and Santa Rosa, Laguna.

The provinces of Bataan (Mariveles); Batangas (Calatagan, Bauan, San Pascual, Mabini and Batangas City); and Quezon (San Fransisco, Mulanay, San Andres and San Narciso) are also encountering the same weather conditions.

PAGASA added that moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds may occur in Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal and Metro Manila within two hours.

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio earlier said rains will prevail over parts of the country this week due to the low pressure area (LPA) and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

\”For the next two to three days, this LPA and ITCZ will continue to bring scattered rains with thunderstorms over the country, especially over Luzon,\” he also told CNN Philippines.

The LPA entered the Philippine weather monitoring area on Sunday afternoon.

PAGASA said the LPA has a \”low chance\” of developing into a storm.

Last week, PAGASA said it may soon declare the start of the El Niño phenomenon.

Aurelio noted one of the factors that PAGASA is looking at before declaring the start of El Niño is if the agency sees proof that the phenomenon will persist in the next three months.

Once El Niño hits, dry weather conditions will be experienced in the southern and eastern parts of the Philippines, while heavier rains will be felt over the western part of the country, the agency said.
