
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 11) — Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena has finally cleared the six-meter barrier to clinch gold in the Bergen Jump Challenge in Norway on Saturday (Manila time), shattering Asian and national pole vault records.
Obiena only needed a single try to jump over the six-meter mark to enter as the 28th member of the elite \”six-meter club.\” He is also the first Filipino and Asian to do so.

USA’s KC Lightfoot bagged the silver medal. He cleared the same height, but he needed two attempts to reach six meters.
Fellow American Sam Kendricks, who’s also a two-time world champion, settled for bronze medal with 5.88 meters.
