Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 7) — Following mixed reactions from the public, TAPE Inc., the production company behind “Eat Bulaga,” asked viewers to give them a chance to showcase newer talents through the “new” noontime show.
“For all the bashers, sana naman po bigyan n’yo naman po ng pagkakataon ang mga talents namin na ipakita naman po, mapasaya ang mga taong-bayan during this time,” TAPE Inc. chief finance officer Bullet Jalosjos told CNN Philippines’ The Source. “Wala po kaming hangarin kung hindi magbigay saya sa ating mga taong-bayan at manunuod.”
[Translation: For all the bashers, we hope you give our talents a chance to prove themselves, to make the people happy during this time. We don’t have any other goal but to make the people and the audience happy.]
After the departure last week of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, and the other mainstays of Eat Bulaga, TAPE Inc. on Monday introduced the show’s new hosts.
Among them are Paolo Contis and Buboy Villar, Betong Sumaya, twins Cassy and Mavi Legaspi, and former \”Tropang LOL\” host Alexa Miro.
Prior to the launch of the new Eat Bulaga on Monday, Jalosjos claimed that some of their hosts were pressured and were asked to back out from the show. He did not elaborate.
On Monday, Eat Bulaga trended online as netizens expressed mixed reactions to this development.
Meanwhile, TVJ and the former co-hosts announced on Wednesday that they will now be producing content for TV5.
“If the people want to watch the old TVJ then they can always look into that channel, pero kung gusto nilang makakita ng mas bago, mas masaya, mas energetic, (but if they want to see newer, more fun, more energetic) new faces, they can go back to EB,” Jalosjos said.
The Dapitan City mayor noted that it has always been the goal of the show to give a platform to individuals to showcase their talent.
This was the same opportunity that paved the way for artists like Aiza Seguerra, the well-loved tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, and the TVJ themselves, he added.
For now, Jalosjos said the management will be working with what it has.
