Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17) — Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been replaced as Senior Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives by a fellow lawmaker from Pampanga.
In Wednesday’s session, the House elected Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio \”Dong\” Gonzales Jr. as new Senior Deputy Speaker.
Arroyo, who represents Pampanga’s 2nd District, was named Deputy Speaker.
In a statement, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose Dalipe said Gonzales was elected to \”unburden\” Arroyo \”of the heavy load required from the position.\”
Arroyo was elected to the leadership post during the opening of the first regular session of the 19th Congress in July last year.
