Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 4) — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is looking into the possibility of tapping the services of other government agencies to address the shortage in plastic cards for drivers’ licenses.
The DOTr on Thursday said Secretary Jaime Bautista is discussing with the director of the National Printing Office (NPO) their technical capability to supply the license cards.
\”The secretary’s meeting with the NPO director was exploratory at this time to determine possible scenarios in the event that their services will be engaged,\” the agency added.
Bautista is also in talks with Asian Productivity Organization (APO) Production — a government owned and controlled corporation.
The DOTr said the Central Bids and Awards Committee (CBAC) will require further details before an agency-to-agency arrangement can be finalized through a memorandum of agreement.
The CBAC is currently conducting a competitive bidding for the license cards. Deadline for submission and opening of bids is on May 24.
The Land Transportation Office has been forced to temporarily issue permits after running out of plastic cards due to procurement issues. (link stories)
