Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 3) — The Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) said that once approved, an additional 6,000 metric tons (MT) of confiscated smuggled sugar could also be sold in Kadiwa stores.
“Meron pa tayong naiiwan na nahuli na almost, I think almost 6,000. So hopefully ma-release once it’s proven safe and approved na po for donation to Kadiwa,” SRA Acting Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said on Wednesday.

Azcona did not say when the smuggled sugar’s possible sale would happen.
The SRA initially said 4,000 MT of smuggled refined sugar would be sold pending approval. This is equivalent to about 4 million kilos.
Azcona said they were ironing out the legalities for this initial amount and are hopeful it would be done before the end of May.
“Yung logistics side yun ang inaayos namin for the past few days para ma-repack at ma-distribute sa mga palengke,” he said.
