Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 25) — The government is already looking into possible solutions to combat the ongoing power crisis in Occidental Mindoro, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Tuesday.
In a media briefing, Remulla said talks are underway regarding the power problems in the province.
\”I’ve been talking to my undersecretary in charge of energy. And we’ve been talking about many of the problems, the other Small Power Utilities Group. So we’re looking for solutions here,” Remulla said.
Occidental Mindoro was placed under a state of calamity last week due to power outages that last 16-20 hours every day.
This prompted the local government to seek help from the national government and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. — who, in his election campaign, promised to end the power crisis in the province.
Remulla, however, cannot say if there was an element of “sabotage” amid these continuous outages.
\”I will not conclude that immediately because it is the system that we adapted to manage our electricity needs, which may be lacking also. The EPIRA (Electric Power Industry Reform Act) law is fundamentally defective to say the least,\” he said.
