Magnitude 5.1 quake strikes waters off Santiago, Agusan del Norte

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 23) — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck in waters off Santiago town in Agusan del Norte on Monday afternoon, state seismologists reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tectonic tremor occurred at 5:32 p.m. with a depth of 1 kilometer (km).

Its epicenter was located 4 kms northwest of Santiago town.

Phivolcs earlier recorded the quake’s epicenter in waters off Nasipit with a magnitude of 5.5 and depth of 35 kms.Intensity 4 or “moderately strong” shaking occurred in Santiago, Jabonga, Magallanes, Buenavista, Remedios T. Romualdez, City of Cabadbaran, and City of Butuan, Agusan del Norte.Intensity 3 or “weak” shaking was logged in Carmen and Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.The City of Surigao, Surigao del Norte experienced Intensity 2 or “slightly felt” tremors.
