Pinoys in Sudan advised to stay indoors amid clashes

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 17) — The Philippine government has advised Filipinos in Sudan to stay inside their homes as the fighting between the country’s army and a paramilitary group continues.

“Due to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo calls on Filipinos in Sudan to: Stay indoors. Do not go out and stay in the safety of your homes,” read the advisory issued by the embassy on Sunday.

Filipinos are also asked to contact and coordinate with the embassy in Cairo and the Philippine Consulate in Khartoum regarding their current circumstances. These include sending clear copies of their passport and residence via email, and providing their basic information and the details of their next of kin in the Philippines.

Cairo is the capital of Egypt, while Khartoum is the capital of Sudan.

There are at least 250 Filipinos residing in Sudan, the Department of Foreign Affairs said, citing data as of March this year.
