Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 11) — A win for the LGBTQIA+ community!
TV host-actress Jervi Li — more famously known as KaladKaren — made history in the 1st Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) after bagging the best supporting actress award for her role in “Here Comes The Groom.”
“Itong parangal na ito ay hindi lamang recognition ng aking trabaho, kung hindi pati na rin ng aking pagkatao,” KaladKaren said during the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal on Tuesday at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.
[Translation: This award is not only recognition of my work, but also of my identity.]
KaladKaren is the first ever trans woman to receive the MMFF nod in the category.
