Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 16) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the number coding scheme will resume Tuesday after it was suspended Monday because of the transport strike.
“Sa aming palagay, hindi na po kailangan i-suspend or palawigin pa yung suspension ng number coding scheme dahil ito’y mag dudulot lamang ng matinding traffic,” MMDA Acting Chairman Don Artes said. “Hindi na po kailangan kasi mukhang sufficient naman yung ating hinanda na libreng sakay.”
[Translation: In our opinion, we do not need to extend the suspension of the number coding scheme because it will only cause heavy traffic. We do not need it since we have prepared enough vehicles to provide free rides.]
MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Procopio Lipana said on Sunday the agency will monitor the impact of the strike on commuters and decide from there.
“We will assess if there is a need to suspend the number coding scheme on the succeeding days, depending on the gravity of the transport strike,\” he said.
