₱190M of misdeclared refined sugar, frozen meat products seized in Zambales

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 3) — Some ₱190 million worth of misdeclared refined sugar and frozen meat products were seized at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Olongapo City, Zambales, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Thursday.

During the examination of 58 containers, more than 30,000 sacks of sugar amounting to ₱150 million were found, the BOC said.

A warrant of seizure and detention will be issued against the containers for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Sugar Regulatory Authority and BOC Joint Memorandum Order No. 04-2002, it added.

Meanwhile, two other containers, that were declared as squid rings, were found to carry assorted frozen meat products worth about ₱40 million, according to the bureau.

It said it will also face the same warrant for violating the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
