Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 22) — The UAAP Season 85 men’s and women’s volleyball tournament will again adopt the video challenge system beginning the second round.

UAAP commissioner Michael Verano explained that the technology to be used is not yet available for now. We’ll start the challenge system in the second round. So, the reason for this is the availability of the actual system,” he said during a press conference. The collegiate league first introduced the challenge system during the short-lived Season 82 in 2020, which was immediately halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be two challenges per set, according to Verano. The UAAP will also ease health protocols during matches. We’ll be going back to pre-pandemic protocols. So shaking hands, high fives, switching around of courts,” Verano said. The patron area in all venues will now be opened to fans as well “for closer UAAP experience,” said UAAP executive director Rene Andrei Saguisag.
