Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 20) — The region-wide manhunt for those behind the Feb. 17 ambush of Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong Jr. continues as security forces eye different armed groups in the area as possible culprits.
Officials have been urging local residents and their families to either provide information on the assailants or turn them over to authorities.No bounty is being offered so far.A special police task force formed after the incident has been meeting with other security agencies to increase efforts in tracking down those behind the ambush.Four people were killed, including three policemen, while Adiong and his aide were wounded after they were attacked by heavily armed men in Maguing town last Friday.Authorities in the Bangsamoro region have sought the help of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which maintains a presence in the area, to pursue the perpetrators.Aside from communist rebels, notorious drug syndicates are also among those the subject of investigations.
