DBM releases over ₱3.41-B to fund tech-voc education

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 16) — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Thursday approved the release of ₱3.410 billion funding for the tertiary education of students in technical vocational schools.

The DBM said the special allotment release order and its corresponding notice of allocation will be used to cover those enrolled in institutions registered under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

“The best investment for the youth of our country is education,\” said DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

\”Malaking tulong po ang Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education sa ating mga mag-aaral,\” she also said. \”This will ensure that no Filipino student is left behind.\”

[Translation: Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education is a big help to our students.]

The agency also noted that the release of such fund is in line with the implementation of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

The ₱3.410 billion allotment, which is chargeable against TESDA’s budget for 2023, will cover the payment of tuition, miscellaneous fees, accident insurance, trainee provision, health/protective equipment, internet allowance, starter tool kits, national assessment fees and other school fees of more than 54,000 students for this year.

President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. previously said in his budget message that improving the skills of the labor force is among the priorities of his administration.
