
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 11) — Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena bagged the silver medal in the ISTAF Indoor Berlin held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Germany on Saturday (Manila time).
Sweden’s Armand Duplantis topped the event as he cleared 6.06 meters, which emerged as the new meet record.
Obiena and Kurtis Marschall of Australia both settled at 5.82 meters, but the Filipino Olympian secured second place via countback.

Since the start of the indoor season, the 27-year-old athlete consecutively got podium finishes in all of the six meets he competed in, including his fresh back-to-back gold medals in the Orlen Cup and Copernicus Cup in Poland.
Obiena — the World No. 3 pole vaulter — said he will not be able to compete at the Asian Indoor Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan next week due to logistical and financial woes.
