Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 6) — The advisory group tapped to screen courtesy resignations submitted by top officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) is now finalizing parameters and guidelines to be used in the evaluation, an official said Monday.

PNP Public Information Office chief Redrico Maranan said the investigation will only begin once the guidelines are set.

“Dito sa mga third level officers natin kasi, magme-meeting pa advisory group para makita nila yung proposed guidelines and parameters. Right after, pag na-finalize na at katanggap-tanggap lahat sa five-man committee or sa advisory group then magsa-start na ang evaluation and screening,” Maranan said in a phone interview.
[Translation: When it comes to dealing with our third officers, the advisory group will still have to meet to see the proposed guidelines and parameters. Right after, once these are finalized and are acceptable to the five-man committee or the advisory group, then the evaluation and screening will start.]

According to the PNP, they have yet to hear from the lone police officer who did not submit his courtesy resignation.

When asked if the policeman will be investigated, Maranan said the decision is up to Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos and PNP Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr.

“I will leave that to the wisdom of the Chief PNP and SILG ,” said Maranan.

Abalos previously said that out of the 953 PNP generals and full colonels, 12 did not submit their courtesy resignations. Of the 12, five have retired and six are retiring.

Abalos said no sanctions will be imposed on these officers.

The members of the five-man committee chosen by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to help rid the police force of corrupt officials are the following: Azurin, Baguio City mayor Benjamin Magalong, former defense chief Gilbert Teodoro, and retired police general Isagani Nerez, who is currently undersecretary at the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs.

The fifth member of the advisory body remains unnamed as he requested that his identity not be made public.
