Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 2) — Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Thursday said he believes the members of an advisory panel formed by the government will be balanced in its review of the courtesy resignation of top Philippine National Police (PNP) officials.

“There are checks and balances,” he told CNN Philippines’ The Source.

On Wednesday, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos named four out of the five members of the panel who will assess the resignation of over 900 PNP generals and full colonels in a bid to cleanse their ranks of ties to illegal drugs.

PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin, who was among the first to file a courtesy resignation, will lead the panel since he was already screened, Abalos noted.

The other members are Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, former Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo”Teodoro, and retired Gen. Isagani Nerez. The fifth member refused to be named.

Dela Rosa said he expects neutrality and objectivity from the panel.
‘
He explained that the members, some of whom are active and retired police officials, can look after one another to check and prevent favoring anyone who submitted resignation.
