Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 26) — Globe Telecom deactivated 20,225 subscriber identity modules (SIMs) and blacklisted 35,333 SIMs involved in scam and spam messages in 2022, the telecommunication provider said in a statement on Thursday.
‘
The company said once detected to have been involved in fraud, Globe SIMs are deactivated while SIMs from other networks are blacklisted to prevent them from sending messages to Globe users.
‘
The telco also said it will continue to invest in cybersecurity programs to protect its customers.
‘
“Globe recognizes the growing threat posed by scammers, who use various tactics, including text messages, to deceive innocent victims into giving up personal information that could be used to compromise their financial accounts,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe chief information security officer.
‘
Meanwhile, Smart Communications Inc. on Wednesday reminded customers to register their SIMs to keep their data safe from text scams, bank fraud and unsolicited text messages.
