Dolly de Leon makes history yet again with BAFTA nomination

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 19) — Filipino actress Dolly de Leon again made history as her acclaimed performance in “Triangle of Sadness” has earned her a nomination at the 2023 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

De Leon was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, along with Angela Bassett from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Hong Chau from “The Whale,” Kerry Condon from “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Jamie Lee Curtis from “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” and Carey Mulligan from “She Said.”

Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness” — a satirical black comedy film — also got nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Casting.

BAFTA announced this year’s nominees on Jan. 19, Thursday, narrowing down the long list it bared last Jan. 7.

The awarding ceremony will take place on Feb. 19 (Feb. 20, early Monday morning in Manila).

De Leon’s BAFTA nomination follows her historic nomination at the Golden Globe Awards in the same category, which Bassett won on Jan. 11.

“I’m really proud. I feel like I have the entire nation behind me with this. I don’t feel like the nominee, I feel like the whole country is the nominee,” the 53-year-old actress earlier told CNN Philippines.

She has also won Best Supporting Performance at the 2022 Los Angeles Films Critics Association Awards held last December.
