Globe warns subscribers vs SIM registration assistance offers

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 11) — Globe Telecom urged mobile subscribers to reject offers posted online for SIM registration assistance as these might compromise their personal data.

The telco issued a statement on Tuesday warning its customers against individuals who take advantage of the implementation of the SIM registration law.

According to the company, it received reports that some malicious individuals have offered subscribers help for free or for a fee in registering their SIM. They would then ask for personal information, including name, photo, valid ID, birthday, cell phone number, and address.

Globe said customers might become vulnerable to fraudulent activities, such as stealing the user’s money and identity.

“Your personal information is valuable and we urge you to protect it from those who may want to use it for unlawful purposes,” she added.

The company reiterated that subscribers could register for free at https://new.globe.com.ph/simreg.

Registration through the GlobeOne app will begin this month.

Globe is also preparing to roll out by February assisted registration sites for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and users of basic or feature phones.
