DOH: No new human cases of anthrax

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 3) — No additional human cases of anthrax infection and no new deaths among carabaos have been recorded following last month’s incidents, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Tuesday.

According to the DOH Epidemiology Bureau and the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit of Region II, the anthrax health event has now been tagged as controlled.

On Dec. 23, the DOH confirmed that 125 people in Cagayan province consumed the meat of two “sick and dying” carabaos. Among them, 26 showed signs and symptoms of human infection of anthrax and were provided medication. All the cases were tagged as recovered as of Dec. 22.
