
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 1) — A total of 49 deaths were recorded after the torrential rains and flooding over the Christmas weekend, disaster response officials said Sunday.

On Jan. 1, 2023, 49 were reported dead, 22 missing, and 16 injured, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Of the 49 deaths, 33 still need to be validated. Majority of the deaths and injuries were reported in Northern Mindanao (Region 10) at 25 and 14, respectively.

Overall, 141,115 families or 553,983 individuals were affected by the disaster. About 14,223 families or 51,456 individuals were displaced from their residences.

Currently, 3,232 families or 10,147 individuals are still in evacuation centers. Most of these affected families hail from Northern Mindanao, MIMAROPA, and CARAGA.

Damage to infrastructure and agriculture was pegged ₱1.13 billion and ₱245 million, respectively. Relief funds amounting to ₱47.9 million were released to the victims.
