Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 6) – Top Filipino golfer Yuka Saso is chasing a historic finish in the last round of the US Women’s Open on Monday (Philippine time) at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

The 19-year-old Saso, who topped the tournament’s first two rounds, relinquished her lead to United States’ Lexi Thompson on Sunday.

Thompson made three birdies on the front nine and two birdies on the back nine to recover from a four-shot deficit against Saso. The Filipina missed a 12-foot par putt on 18 to surrender the overall lead to the American by a single stroke.

Saso is looking to be the first Filipino to win in the oldest and most prestigious LPGA tournament and in any of the LPGA Tour’s five major championships.

Saso, who has yet to finish better than sixth place in an LPGA Tour event, can also join South Korea’s Inbee Park as the only teenage golfers to win the US Women’s Open. Park won the 2008 edition at 19 years, 11 months, and 17 days, which will be Saso’s exact age on Monday.
