COVID testing center chief med tech killed in road crash in Leyte

CNN Philippines (Tacloban City, December 12) — The chief medical technologist of the Eastern Visayas Regional COVID-19 Testing Center was killed in a road accident on Saturday in Kananga town, Leyte.

Three vehicles figured in the crash, including a Toyota Vios carrying the victim who was identified as Virgilio Hubilla Jr. The other vehicles involved were a Mitsubishi Expander, going to Ormoc City, and an Isuzo Elf truck.

Hubilla was brought to the Kananga Municipal Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the Kananga Municipal Police Station, the accident happened at around 3 p.m., along the national highway of Montebello village, Kananga.

Initial investigation disclosed that the driver of the Vios tried to overtake the Elf truck that was unloading sand.

The Department of Health Regional Office 8 has not yet issued a statement on the sudden death of the COVID testing center personnel.

The Eastern Visayas Regional COVID-19 Testing Center is under the management of DOH Region 8.
