Baguio City (CNN Philippines) — The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CRDRRMC) is bracing for heavy rains and strong winds brought by Tropical Storm Kabayan.
The CRDRRMC has raised its alert status to red Thursday evening (October 2) as storm warning signals were raised over several Cordillera provinces.
As of Friday morning (October 3), Signal No. 2 was raised over the province of Benguet including Baguio City, and over the provinces of Ifugao and Mt. Province.
CRDRRMC Chairman Andrew Alex Uy scheduled a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting Friday to discuss preparation and mitigation activities.
Uy said the Cordillera Regional Disaster Response Clusters are on alert and are closely monitoring areas.
He added that while Tropical Storm Kabayan will not have a direct impact on the region, it may trigger monsoon rains which may cause flooding and landslides.
Among the areas they are closely monitoring for preemptive evacuation are Mt. Province, Benguet including Baguio City as they expect moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
