Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — J.K Rowling never fails to surprise her fans.
Years after the seventh book in the Harry Potter series was released, Rowling gave fans the nitty gritty on the background of James Potter’s side of the family.
Fans know of Lily, Harry’s mom, and her sister Petunia – whose family took the boy wizard in after James and Lily were killed by Voldemort – but not much is known about James.
A new short story published on Pottermore changes all of that.

“The Potter Family” details the background of the family of James Potter, saying that while the Potters had “illustrious beginnings.” they were not part of the “Sacred Twenty-Eight” – magical families that remained untainted by Muggle blood.
It also revealed that the Potters descended from an eccentric wizard named Linfred of Stinchombe, whose experiments and remedies evolved into potions used by modern-day healers.
The Potters’ wealth was quadrupled by Harry’s grandfather, Fleamont, who invented Sleekeazy’s Hair Potion.
