Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — They were first introduced in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as KIA Carnival. Then, after a putrid Philippine Cup campaign where they finished with a single victory, the expansion team became KIA Sorento.
But starting next season, PBA fans shall refer to them as the Mahindra Enforcers.
The name-change of the Manny Pacquiao-led team was announced by team manager Eric Pineda during Mahindra’s brand launch on Monday (July 13).
The news was first reported by Top Gear, which described Mahindra as a “rugged Indian utility vehicle recently chosen by the Philippine National Police (PNP) as its transport vehicle.”
Mahindra is distributed in the Philippines by Asianbrands Motor Corporation, the siter company of the Columbian Autoca Corporation which is the distributor of KIA.
