Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — LeBron James has agreed to sign a two-year deal worth the maximum of $46.9 million with the Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN said in a report on Friday PHT (July 10).
According to the report, the second year of the contract is a player option.
James made known that he would only negotiate with a new deal once teammate Tristan Thompson gets signed. But the former Most Valuable Player told the Cavs of his intentions on the first day teams could sign players.
Last season, James averaged 25.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists, and led the Cavaliers to the National Basketball Association (NBA) finals.
Out West, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Roy Hibbert from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for a future second round draft pick.
The trade was officially announced on the Pacers’ official website.
“I’d like to thank Roy for all his contributions during his time in Indiana,” President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird said in a statement.
“He was a two-time NBA All-Star, and we appreciate everything he did for our franchise both on and off the court.”
Hibbert played seven seasons for the Pacers, averaging 11.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks.
