Zamboanga City (CNN Philippines) — Seven persons were injured after an unidentified attacker threw a hand grenade early Tuesday morning (July 7) at Scott Road in Jolo.
According to Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Capt Rowena Muyuela, the attacker, who was on board an XRM motorcycle, hurled a hand grenade towards the direction of a Philippine Army truck as it was passing in front of the Hadji Butu School of Arts and Trade along Scott Road. It happened at around 6:50 a.m.
The grenade did not hit the vehicle but exploded, causing minor injuries to seven civilians in the area.
The unidentified attacker then fled towards the area of Kasanyangan Village and was believed to be headed for Barangay Anuling Patikul.
Police said investigation is ongoing.
The Western Mindanao Command condemns the latest attack aimed towards government troopers but where innocent civilians have become the primary casualties.
